Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda will inaugurate the Sampoorna Geeta Govinda Festival on September 15 at Jayadev Bhavan. On the inaugural day, songs from Geeta Govinda - ‘Jaya Jagadeesha Hare’, ‘Rase Harimiha’, ‘Sakhi he Kesimathanam’, ‘Mamiyam Chalita Vilokya’, ‘Nindati Chandanam’, ‘Sarasa Vasante’, choreographed by senior dancers Sharmila Biswas, Aruna Mohanty, Meera Das and late Guru Gangadhar Pradhan were presented by dancers from the repertory of Orissa Dance Academy and Odissi Vision and Movement Centre.Īll the 24 songs from the epic have been selected for the festival, ranging from the homage to Lord Krishna, to various shades of Radha and Krishna’s longing for each other, and the sage advice of Radha’s ‘sakhi’. In his book, Pani has provided a critical analysis of Geeta Govinda, ‘anvaya’, word meanings, translation and a comprehensive introduction. Prior to the dance festival, a book ‘Sampoorna Geeta Govinda’, authored by Dr Subas Pani, noted Sanskrit scholar, musician and curator of the festival, was released by the Chief Minister. The fourth edition of the festival includes some of the best known names in Odissi genre. The festival has been mounted by Sri Geeta Govinda Pratishtana of Puducherry, which has been making its presence felt across the country over the last few years with elaborate dance events dedicated to the 12th century epic of Jayadeva.
